drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge techno. with releases this year already from adam beyer, pig&dan, alan fitzpatrick, dense & pika and julian jeweil, this july sees the return of enrico sangiuliano with astral projection. after his remix of mobys of why does my heart feel so bad back in november last year, enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. the result brings a mind and body melting release from the italian producer. the title track astral projection is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level. ‘blooming era has destructive dancefloor intent. there is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which enrico has mastered to perfection. a tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track. if you have seen label head honcho adam beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. road-tested to the max, and with much success.

on the prowl appears to be on a roll with its new found artists. following up robotalcos success on the previous otp, giorgio lands himself in anthem territory. the a1 track >more heart< is big, catchy, and totally feel good house vibes with disco styled horn flourishes. the a side inside cut >basement 6d22< takes us near kerri chandler with delayed brassy chord stabbing and long organ pads. flipping the record over reveals a stunning slo mo disco house workout, filled with jam style organ riffs and amazing synth horn parts. for b2 we get a perscription style deep house track with all the right dark drifting chords. excellent release.

neil landstrumm - bad life choice club ep are bad life choices a bad thing or actually quite good really? neil landstrumm invites you to join his club of fools with this effort on moustache records. its money badly invested if you do but endless selfish pleasure awaits the brave. don t blame me if it all goes wrong. i warned you. idiot. this six track lp from the early 1980s contains pleasure seeking electro-pop and beastly disco lust, heard from the other side of mute records black leatherette covered door this record is made by neil landstrumm (rip) on fuck all with shit speakers. ably assisted by tommy stuart and his wall of modular synth and a pork pie on at least two occasions. made for the french but they didn t have enough money to pay for it. fuck the tories and brexit. scotland wanted to stay in the european union. we hope you all know that.

the second release in endless illusion s series of split eps comes from marcos cabral & daniel araya and features two tracks from each artist. new york s cabral is known for his experimental idm and techno on labels like l.i.e.s. while daniel araya has recently released an album of acid, techno and industrial on the classicworks label. araya s we almost lost detroit is first and is a truly haunted deep techno cut with sparse acid undulations and a real sense of manic in the rasping synth lines. softer pads in the background only add to the spooky nature of the track. ghost bass is the other araya cut and this one is more up on its toes, with mid tempo kicks down low and wonky chords up top. it s a mind melting tune that trips deep into the night. live at the egg is cabral s first effort and is a lonely and icy techno track that is supple and seductive in its long lines and paddy drums. after getting you into a state of hypnosis, some freaky vocal sounds only add to the unsettling nature of it all later on. cuts & bruises rounds things out in squelchy and depraved techno territory. muted acid stabs are off in the distance as swampy drums suck you in from the front. it s a brilliantly odd tune that close out a fine ep.

wrapping up the summer with a bit of a 90s throwback number by st. david, &#8203,, * fools jam* . the ep opens with the titual track, a crunchy, crisp deep house burner, and moves on, with night lovers, into speedier, smoother floor-filling fodder that’s all wiggling, weaving pads and synth leads. the b is a little gentler and more contemplative, but no less melodious dream it (emphasi mix) is a playful yet gauzy piano-led tune that serenades the listener, and la luna (spiritual dub) is a tranquil ditty that serenely glides off into the distance. a calming, mellow conclusion to a particularly emotive 12inch.

things gettin’ faster and more toolish on the second osmund audio release. alexander brandl’s second ep is made for the dancefloor. his drawing board is the modular synth, that spat out three massive groovers with chords from outer space, super thick bass lines and a raw and reduced sound design with roughly edited drums.

it goes without saying that space has always been central to techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements. etapp kyle’s first full ostgut ton ep release sees the ukrainian-born, berlin- based berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding techno’s overt intergalactic clichés. by partially linking to his continuum ep (unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. opener “alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. while a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. from there, “quantum” on a2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.

sven weisemann is set to release his ‘bilateral relations’ ep via copenhagen’s echocord this september, comprising four originals from the german producer. sven weisemann has been immersed in the underground house and techno scene for quite some time now having started djing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of berlin and going on to release material via the likes of amsterdam’s delsin, mojuba, telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. here though we see sven joining the roster of echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like fluxion, rod modell and stl on the roster. ‘lunation’ opens the release and sees weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track ‘bilateral relations’ embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. opening the flip is ‘monistic’, an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the ‘decimation (valvle tr9 mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

senso sounds collects together two of the key tracks from bossman oliver huntemann’s new propaganda album for this 12 inch release. senso has established itself as a key label in the techno scene and huntemanns ear for quality remains as sharp as ever. rotlicht is a precision-honed instrument of techno weaponry - hard as nails and featuring epic and mind-bending breakdowns. additionally the egyptian dj and producer raxon reworks the track into a deep and solid groover with plenty of attitude. ‘poltergeist’ is a journey into huntemann’s feel for sound design and space in a club context, beguiling with its seeming simplicity, before hitting home with shifting, evolving grooves and haunting synth blasts. the young russian maksim dark adds his own interpretation of poltergeist to the release, edging up the darkness a little more and producing a growling, tough techno workout that will go over big on a lot of floors this year.

route 8 and s olbricht are both highly regarded artists in their own right, but less light has been shed on their collaborative endeavours as ste pwri tmod. largely lurking around the go! finger label, this second instalment of selected works is taken from the album of the same name, giving a proper vinyl outing to some of the stunning tracks previously confined to cassette. -when i pictured myself- is a wonderfully laid back jam peppered with personality at every juncture, while -horriflowers- takes a more uneasy trip into machine techno led by a growling synth. things cool off considerably on the dubby -nirrimi- and then -strobes- rounds the record off with a brooding, wavey cut for dark, romantic dancers to lose themselves in.

having already made a strong connection with the ever-excellent udacha label, russian duo gamayun now take their talents to hesperian sound division to unfurl more of their delicate, richly musical creations. -golden ratio- leads in on stunning jazz piano refrains, edging threads of percussion into the mix with poise that sets gamayun apart from the rest of the crowd. -ascension- takes things in a more cosmic direction, all swooping and swooning synth lines beamed in from a distant star. -untitled- has a more lazy, blues-minded attitude, while -uvolnenie- edges a little more techno influence into the mix, but truly this is space-age music played by musicians with genuine chops.

with releases on loxy’s cylon and a track on the final hardware lp, the enigmatic shiken hanzo goes all-in on the first vinyl release on his own label hojo clan - and it’s an absolute lesson in claustrophobic half-time futurism.

with the asexual ep by yobkiss, electronic emergencies is back with a true electronic delight. yobkiss consists of dutch instrumentalist and producer paul borchers, currently based in san fransisco, and tokyo resident yuko araki on vocals. their music balances on the edge of avant-garde electronics and flirts with acid pop in dreamy soundscapes, with an analogue synth sound and beautiful vocals in japanese and english. or, in their own words, a pitch-dark, filth-ridden tour de force into the worlds of acid house and electro.

the third and final part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings two more hot productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe. the tune “rifyx” is taken from desvarieux’s 1985 album “oh madiana” and delivers arresting jazz-funk and zouk-suspense enlarged with touching horns, synth-enthusiasm and longing female vocals. the second song comes from the paris based, west cameroon born singer tala, produced by desvarieux for tala’s album “mother africa” in 1982. also here desvarieux tuned the synthesizers odd and edgy to let them dance with an afro styled rhythm. above all tala sings sexy with a chorus of girls while percussions go crazy and the sounds of horns are longing for the sky. on top of everything endless flight asked again the japanese producer kuniyuik to edit a desvarieux track. he chose “rifyx” and tuned it into an epic soulful eight minutes long dream house anthem that funks all dancers crazy. hotter than hot stuff here!
